I had a lot of fun for this project, pushing myself out of the normal card making idea and instead, making a fun and easy mix media art using the new Altenew Craft-a-flower Cosmos releasing today. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen I have recently started to dabble in acrylic painting and I thought why not combine the two hobbies into one piece of work with this easy mix media piece.
I experimented with mixing mediums as I used watercolours for the for Altenew Craft-a-flower Cosmos, and these flowers just pop off the background. If you can’t wait for the CAF to arrive, you can use any of your layering dies to get the same effect. But for those steadfast card makers, why not use this piece as inspiration and turn it into a card. You can swap the acrylic paint out for your inks and great a beautiful background for the flowers to sit on!
If you’re hopping along, you should have come from Jenny Colacicco or you can always start at the beginning on the Altenew Card Blog.

The CAF Cosmos layering die will be available to buy from 02/07/2021 at 12:01 am EST.
Make sure you check out the end of the post for more details on the hop, along with your next stop!

Easy Mix Media art with Altenew CAF: Cosmos - creating the background
Start of by painting a canvas board measuring 7″ by 5″ with acrylic paint. The colours used in this background are:
- Titanium white
- Neutral Gray 5
- Colbalt Blue Hue
- Light Blue Violet
- Turquoise Blue
- Medium Magenta

For a smooth blend, and for quick painting, use a large flat brush. Remember to layer the colours up and ensure the paint is still wet to get a smooth blend. Next, use the Altenew Pure White Ink Spray to add ink splatters to the background.

Before all the splatters dry, add some gold embossing powder over the top to some of the splatters and heat set.
Easy Mix Media art with Altenew CAF: Cosmos - painting the flowers
To add colour to the flowers, die-cut the Altenew Craft-a-flower Cosmos out of watercolour cardstock. Next, temporarily adhere the die-cuts to a scrap piece of card and colour these in with your Altenew Watercolour 36 pan set. The colours used to paint the flowers are:
- Puffy Heart
- Purple Wine
- Midnight Violet
- Lavender Fields
- Frayed Leaf
- Forest Glades
- Evergreen

After you have painted the flowers, layer these us with liquid adhesive following the layering guide included on the packing. Adhere these to your canvas board/ or card, with foam pads and liquid adhesive to ensure they stay put.

Lastly, add a heat emboss saying from the Altenew Darling Rose stamp set to finish this easy mix media art off!
