Today’s post is a bumper packed filled post with lots of cards. I’m showing you 5 ways with a cover-plate die, showing you how to get more from a die and stretch your crafting prowess. What’s more, the die I’m using is a Slimline cover-plate die, but I’m using it on regular a2 cards. So don’t always thing you can’t use Slimline products on A2 cards!
This card features in the new For Your Crew release from Catherine Pooler Designs, and I’ve paired it with a variety of different media. So hopefully there is a style in this mix for you!

5 ways with a cover-plate die: Tone on Tone die-cutting
This first card uses the fabulous Chevron Slimline Die just as it is normally intended to – to die-cut. Here I’ve die-cut it out of white cardstock and then adhere down to a white card base with liquid adhesive for a tone-on-tone look.

Next, stamp the foliage design from the Best Things In Life stamp set in Serenade, Do-si-do and Catching Rays ink, before die-cutting with the coordinating die. Foam mount this onto the front of the card along with a white heat embossed sentiment from the Ladies Who Lunch stamp set.
Lastly, embellish with a few Ebony Black Cyrstal Nuvo Drops from Tonic Studios. This method of using a cover-plate die adds texture to the background without distracting the from the focal point of the card.

5 ways with a cover-plate die: heat embossing
This second method uses the die along with heat embossing. Die-cut the Chevron Slimline Die from scrap cardstock and then smoosh your Embossing ink pad down onto the die-cut.

Cover the die-cut with Judith’s Blush Embossing Powder and heat set. You may wish to repeat this several times for a smooth dimensional look. After, use liquid glue to adhere this to a card panel horizontally and trim off any excess.
To finish this card, add a sentiment with the Bestie Word Die from Catherine Pooler Designs along with a heat embossed the sentiment from the Ladies Who Lunch stamp set. For this method, you can combine an embossing powder with a cover-plate die for a bold striking background.

5 ways with a cover-plate die: create a stencil for ink blending
Once more, die-cut the Chevron Slimline Die from scrap cardstock to create a stencil. Next, adhere this down onto a white card base and start ink blending a selection of colours over the top.

The same colours of Serenade, Do-si-do and Catching Rays ink, were used for this background. As the die is slimline, you’ll need to reposition the die to ink blend the while background – just line up the lines for a seamless design.
This card was finished off with another heat embossed sentiment from the Ladies Who Lunch stamp set, foam mount this to the top of the card. This is such a fun way to use the design of the die to create a one-dimensional background.

5 ways with a cover-plate die: creating a stencil to add different media through
Reuse the stencil you created for the previous card and this time, you can apply different media through it. Here for this card, I’ve applied Esmeralda Green Glimmer Paste from Tonic Studios through the stencil onto a card panel. After removing the stencil and leave to dry.

For this card, I cut down part of the glimmer paste panel and foam mounted onto the front of a card panel for a clean and simple card. Another heat embossed sentiment from the Ladies Who Lunch stamp set was added to the front.
To add a few embellishments, I added a few Ebony Black Cyrstal Nuvo Drops from Tonic Studios scattered around. You can use a stencil with a whole host of media like this, for example: embossing paste, embellishment mouse, transfer gel to then foil etc.

5 ways with a cover-plate die: creating with the stencil left over
This last card came together so easily. I allowed the stencil to dry after having used it in the previous card to add glimmer paste through it. This has added a glitter design to the die-cut and I trimmed this down to create a bold geometric design to adhere to the card.

To keep it simple, I added a layered black die cut using the Bestie Word Die and added a heat embossed sentiment. This card was also finished with a few Ebony Black Cyrstal Nuvo Drops from Tonic Studios.
Get the most out of what you do by using your scraps up just like I’ve done here with the make-shift stencil that was covered in the glimmer paste!
