I have been challenging myself recently to make Christmas cards with an alternative colour scheme to the traditional colours, but for this card, I couldn’t resist using the classic colours of red and gold! There is a reason that classic colour combinations work and we keep going back to them. The WOW! And Jillian Vance Design teams are hopping along today with lots of inspiration along the way, and of course, there are prizes along the hop too.
This card uses the Jingle All the Way stamp set from Jillian Vance designs, which has some great Christmas sentiments along with a couple of baubles and other festive decorations.

Prizes: WOW! Embossing Powder $25 Gift Card, A Jillian Vance Design $25 Gift Card
Winners: Please be sure to leave your comments on each DT blog post (including WOW! Embossing Powder & A Jillian Vance Design blog posts) Please comment on each post to be eligible to win 2 x $25, Gift Card to A Jillian Vance Design or WOW Stores. Creating the bauble scene
To start off, trim a piece of red card stock down to A2 card size and use an acrylic block to stamp the bauble outline stamp in WOW! Clear ultra slow drying embossing ink. You’ll want to stamp this three times, offset to one side and positioning the baubles at different levels for interest so it is just a little more appealing on the eye.

After you’ve stamped the baubles, use the bow stamp from set to add a bow to the top of each bauble. Next, I’m cover the stamping in WOW! Metallic Gold Rich Pale embossing powder and heat set this with your dual-speed heat gun.
To get the look as though these baubles are hanging down on the card panel, taking an embossing ink pen along with a T-ruler and draw a straight line from the top down into each of the bows on the baubles. Again, cover this with the gold powder and heat set. Now it looks as though the baubles are hanging from the top of the card.

Adding some drama!
Next, create some masks by stamping the bauble three times onto Inakdinkadoo masking paper and fussy cut these out. Once you’ve positioned the masks over the baubles, use some blending brushes to apply ink to the edges and softening the colour out towards the middle. The first colour used is Catherine Pooler Peppermint Scrub which is a lovely dark red. After that, apply Catherine Pooler Royal Treatment to darken the edges. Although it is a purple and not a red, it really adds drama to the card as it gives a dark luxurious colour to the edge.

Before proceeding onto the next part, use the slow setting on your dual speed heat gun to dry ink on the panel. Next, using a small blending brush along with embossing ink gently apply the clear ink around the edges. Cover the edges with Midas Touch Embossing Glitter which has a mix of platinum powder and chunky silver glitter.
As you heat set this gives a very rustic look to the edge of the card which is perfect for winter. Repeat applying ink to the edges again, and this time add gold powder over the top to tie in with gold embossing on the panel.

Adding the Finishing touches
To add some more interest to the baubles to make them stand out from the background, use a white Gel pen to draw in some decoration onto the baubles. tthe white really pops against the red of the cardstock and makes the baubles stand out.

The card panel was added to a white card base and a sentiment from the stamp set was heat embossed in Opaque bright white embossing powder onto black card. For a little more interest with the sentiment, cut one end into a flag end using scissors.
Lastly to embellish the card, use a few of the Mermaid Bubbles from Jillian Vance designs along with some clear Nuvo drops around the baubles.
