Emboss resist ink blended background:

Position the stamp in your stamping platform with it set up to stamp with rubber stamps. Place a piece of  Sea Glass cardstock by Gina K into the platform with a small piece of temporary adhesive to keep it in place.

Next, stamp with Clear ultra slow drying ink from WOW! Embossing powder and then cover with Long Island teal embossing glitter. To heat set the powder, it is best to start from behind the cardstock with your dual speed heat gun from WOW!. This prevents the glitter flying off your design before the powder has melted and trapped the glitter within it.

For added interest, use All That Jazz and Daydream along with some blending brushes to add colour to the edges of the panel. For the sentiment, create a white layered die cut out for 3 die cuts and adhered this onto a vellum shadow using the shadow outline die from the set. To complete the sentiment, add a heat embossed sentiment from your stash onto a black card strip. To finish the card off,  add white gloss Nuvo drops in odd numbers to help lead the eye around the card.

pencil coloured highlighting:

For the second background technique,  stamp the background in the embossing ink onto a dark grey card panel. Then cover this in the opaque bright white embossing powder and heat set with your dual speed heat gun.

To highlight the rose design of the background, use a white pencil to lay down some colour fading it out into the colour of the cardstock. This will give some shading and dimension to the petals. You may also wish to use another colour for a slightly better blend.

For this card, add another layered white friend die cut to the front along with another heat embossed sentiment from your stash. Again, the card was finished off with some white nuvo drops.

ink smooshed and dimensional cut background:

You can create interesting panels to stamp your background design onto. For the last card, this uses a rainbow colour scheme along with some ink smooshing. First of all, smoosh down Rockin red and orange twist down onto a glass mat and spritz this well with water. Using a piece of watercolour paper, press this down into the ink several times.

Before adding the next colours, dry the panel with your heat gun using the slow speed. This will prevent the colours from running too much with one another which could lead to a mud colour forming. The next two colours used were Limoncello and Grass skirt. For the blue, you can use Something Borrowed, along with a little bit of Juniper Mist. For the last colour add Grape Crush. All these inks are by Catherine Pooler Designs.

Make sure your panel is nice and dry before you heat emboss onto it. To check if it is dry, sprinkle some embossing powder over the panel. If any sticks, just use your heat gun to dry the panel some more. The background design was stamped in clear ink and covered with Primary ebony embossing powder.

Now to step this background up a bit, you can add dimension – a great way to this is cut up your panel into strips of varying widths. Don’t worry, you will put the background back together, so you haven’t lost all your hard work.

Add strips of fun foam to the back of every other strip and then adhered these to the card panel. Make sure you check the orientation of the strip before you adhere these down, to ensure you background design remains continuous. For those strips without foam backing, just adhere directly to the card panel.

Lastly, add a heat embossed in black onto a white strip along with a layered back die cut friend sentiment with a vellum shadow. Once more finish the card if with a selection of rainbow Nuvo drops.
