Layering heat embossing with embossing glitters

Layering heat embossing is a fun technique and one I often see the fabulous Jo Herbet do who inspires me to use it too. I’ve layered heat embossing before, but I don’t usually do it with embossing glitter – but you can do it with them as well! I’ll share my tips on layering heat embossing with glitters and share to easy CAS cards feature stamps & dies from Catherine Pooler designs. So let’s get started.

HEading

layering heat embossing with embossing glitters: card 1

To start off, stamp the base layer of the florals from the Big Blossoms stamp set from Catherine Pooler designs in embossing ink. Next, cover this with an embossing glitter of your choice – here I used Glitz embossing glitter

Next, stamp over the heat embossed base layer with the next layer of the florals from the Big Blossoms stamp set. Now cover this with another embossing glitter. For this layer to show, make sure you choose an opaque (O) embossing glitter and not a translucent (T) embossing glitter).  Here I used Dress Blue embossing glitter

Once you have heat set the second layer, use the Big Blossom dies to cut the images out. For the background on this card, dry emboss the In The Square stencil from Catherine Pooler design. Foam mount the heat embossed images onto the front of the card.

Lastly, stamp a sentiment in Dress Blue Ink and embellish with sequins from the Park Avenue Sequin mix

layering heat embossing with embossing glitters: card 2

For this card, I kept the process the same but switched up the order of the embossing glitters. As Glitz embossing glitter is an Opaque embossing glitter, I can layer it up over a dark colour and it will still show.

Make sure you when you heat embossing glitters, heat from beneath the cardstock. This will prevent the glitter from flying off before the powder has had a chance to melt and trap it. It will also give you smooth embossing.

For this card, stamp a sentiment in Uptown ink directly onto a card base and foam mount a single flower. Embellish with sequins travel up and across the card to lead the eye through the design.
