Today’s blog post is packed full of inspiration as I have 6 cards for you using some fabulous new stamps, dies and stencils from Altenew! I’ve also recently picked up the Altenew Artists 24 watercolour pan set – I already have the 36 pan set, the first set of watercolours Altenew released. So I thought I would try them out alongside the original 36 pan set and see how they compare.
The artist pan set is of higher grade watercolours, this should results in a higher pigmented colour when compared to the original set. However, I have used and loved the original 36 pan set for many years and would highly recommend them, especially if you’re new to watercolouring or unsure if it is for you. They’re slightly cheaper and you get more colours. But if you want to step up your colouring, then try the Altenew Artists 24 watercolour pan set -for higher pigmentation. Altenew watercolour pan set comparison cards
For these two cards, heat emboss the Bouquet of Love stamp set in gold embossing powder. Heat embossing is a great technique if you’re new to watercolouring – it helps you stay within the lines. The card below uses the 36 pan set.
Colour in the floral images using your watercolours, adding a soft pale wash before adding darker colours in the folds of the flowers or within the shadows.
To help ground the florals, add clear water around the floral and then drop in blue colour, softly fading out to a clear colour. In addition, add a few blue paint splatters as well as a few gold paint splatters from the Altenew Metallic Watercolour pan set.
To finish the cards off, add these to a slimline card base. Lastly, with black pigment in, stamp a sentiment from the stamp set onto the cards. The card below was painted with the Altenew Artist 24 watercolour pan set. Looking at them side by side, the Artist pan created a more vibrant card, but both sets work beautifully!
Stencil highlights on coloured cardstock!
For these next two cards, I used the new Scalloped Ornaments stamp and stencil set. There is also a coordinating die set. To create the card, stamp the Scalloped Ornaments stamp repeatedly over a Tranquil Teal card panel in embossing ink.
In addition, repeat and stamp this over a Seaglass card panel as well. Cover these with gold embossing powder and heat set. To create a spotlight effect, using the coordinating stencil mask along with a blending tool and apply Unicorn Hero Arts pigment ink over the top.
The embossing powder will resist the ink, and the white pigment ink will pop against the coloured cardstock. Make sure the pigment ink is dry before adhering the panels onto white cardbases.
To finish the cards off, use the Altenew Waterbrush Hello die and a heat embossed sentiment strip. In addition, embellish with gold matt sequins.
Folk Art stamp & die card
For this card, stamp the Altenew Folk Art stamp in Altenew Jet Black Permanent ink as we will colour this in with Alcohol markers. Using the Purples and Teals from the Altenew Watergarden Alcohol marker set, colour the floral images in.
For the greens, use the Sunshine Valley Garden alcohol marker set. Once the colour is complete, use the coordinating die to die-cut this out. Next, add foam pads to the back of the die-cuts and adhere onto a Lovely Lavendar card panel.
To finish this card off, heat emboss in white a sentiment from the stamp set onto a strip of black card, and add this strip to the card.
Marbled blooms stamp & die!
This card features the funky Altenew Marbled Bloom stamp and die set – there is also a coordinating stencil mask. The bloom is a layering stamp and this was stamped in a selection of blues from the Glacier Caves & Lapis Luzli ink sets.
The leaves were created with a selection of green inks from the Zesty Limes ink set. After the stamping was complete, I used the coordinating dies to cut them out. This release also has a fabulous paper pack – For the Love of Strips Set D and this coral peach strip paper pairs beautiful with the bold blue floral.
The card was finished off with a stamped sentiment from the Marbled Blooms stamp set. In addition, I added a few enamel dots from the Glacier Caves enamel dots set.

All your cards are beautiful. The slimline cards are my favorites. I have both watercolor sets, but haven’t used the artist’s watercolors yet and I am looing forward to it. The 36 pan set has been a longtime favorite and perfect for coloring on cards.
