Adding monochromatic pencil highlights

I’ve really got into my Christmas cards now, and my stash of cards is growing ready for when I need to send them out. With my cards, I’m trying to make a range of styles so I have plenty of different cards to send out. So today I’m showing you how adding monochromatic pencil highlights can really and depth to your stamping and heat embossing, creating a simple yet stunning Christmas card. So let’s get started!

Adding monochromatic pencil highlights

Creating the background

Position a piece of Hero Hues Nautical Cardstock into your MISTI, but make sure you remove the foam insert first. You need to do this, as the PinkFresh Studio Merry Little Christmas stamp is a red rubber cling stamp. Push out the sentiment insert and then stamp this down in embossing ink onto the card.

Cover this with white embossing powder and heat set. Next, position the sentiment back into the middle of the design and stamp once again but this time cover with Metallic Gold embossing powder.

Adding monochromatic pencil highlights

To add depth to the stamped design, use a white Faber Castell pencil to add highlights and definition to the objects. Add more pressure when using the pencil in the areas where there would be a shadow, and soften this out to where the highlights would be.

Once the colour is complete, use Nuvo Drops in Red Berry Crystal Drops and Chalk Stick Vintage drops to add a variety of different sizes of drops around the card. The red adds a tiny bit of colour which pairs well with the navy and white background.
