Fixing a mistake into a card!

So it all happens to everyone. You have an idea in your head in what you want to do. Whilst you’re doing it, things start going wrong or it doesn’t turn out how you had hoped. And then you left with a design you don’t feel you can use and you’ve wasted your time. But don’t worry, fixing your mistake isn’t as daunting as you think and you can easily create a new card design with a few tricks. So let’s get started!

Fixing a mistake into a card!

Creating the background for stamping

So this card started off as a whole piece of watercolour cardstock that I had to spritz with water. I then started dropping in a selection of Catherine Pooler Inks with the re-inkers. For the colours used, see the links list at the end of the post. When I dropped a colour in, I spritzed it with water to move the colour around.

After I had added enough colour, I used heat setting 1 on my WOW! dual speed heat gun to dry the panel. I knew I wanted to heat emboss on this, but I thought I would try adding some layers of light stamping of the PinkFresh Studio Leafy Decor stamp around the edges. This was done in Twilight Catherine Pooler ink.

Let's start Fixing a mistake

After, this the Leafy Decor stamp was stamped in WOW! embossing ink in either corner and covered with WOW! Opaque Bright White embossing powder and heat set.  Now at this point, I wasn’t loving it. The heat embossing looked lost in the colours and I need to bring out the design more.

So to add more definition to the design, I got out my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils and started to colour the design in. I tried to match the colours of colouring to the area around the part I was colouring. Once it was coloured, I liked it but it still wasn’t right.

Let's finished of Fixing a mistake into a card!

I decided it needs some white space to help with the design. The easiest way to do that was to use the coordinating die to die-cut the embossed images out and then foam mount these onto a white cardbase.

To finish the card off, I used the ‘Hello’ word and shadow die from the PinkFresh Studio Phrase Builder: Hello set and added this to the front, along with a stamped sentiment from the Leafy Decor Stamp set. Lastly, I embellished the card with a few Starlight sequins from Lucy’s cards.
