Creating white paper flowers – (Altenew Craft-A-Flower: Daffodil & Glitter CardstockRelease Blog Hop + Giveaway)

Creating white paper flowers at times can be challenging. But today I want to share my time on how I like to create white paper flowers for my cards. I’m using the fabulous new Craft-a-flower from Altenew which features a beautiful Daffodil. Now Daffodils are commonly yellow but I wanted instead to one of the white ones you see now and then. However, you can create with whatever flower die-set you have to hand!

When it comes to creating white paper flowers, I love to use layering dies. These allow you to add very subtle hints of colours to white that helps to build up depth and dimension. As it builds up, you get the look of white flowers with subtle shading.

You should have arrived here from the fantastic Virginia Lu. You can always start at the beginning of the hop over at the Altenew Card Blog here.

Make sure you check out the end of the post for more details on the hop, along with your next stop!

creating white paper flowers: colouring the flower head

To create the white paper flower, I’m adding a very smaller amount of colour with my watercolours. Die-cut the Altenew Craft-a-flower: Daffodil dies out of watercolour card stock. For the main body of the flower, add white watercolour from the Altenew Artist 24 watercolour pan set to the full base layer.

Next, add a tiny little hint of Pocketful of Sunshine yellow to the white for the next layer. This will give the next layer a very subtle tinge to it, which will help to add shade and depth to the floral as you build the layers up. For each next layer, just add a tiny more yellow to build the subtle colour up.

For the trumpet of the daffodil, build the colours up with yellows and oranges to add shading. In addition, also die-cut the leaves from watercolour cardstock and colour in a similar way in green colours.

To create the background, dry emboss a soft stone cardstock panel with the Broken Chevron stencil and add it to a card base. Die-cut the word ‘You’ from the All About You Word die set out of black card that is lined with double-sided adhesive sheets and layer up onto the front of the card.

Lastly, add a small stamp sentiment to finish the card and embellish with clear sequins discs, scattered around the card.
