The Design team from WOW! Embossing powders has teamed up with Picket Fence Studios for a fun-filled blog hop where there is plenty of inspiration and prizes up for grabs. For today’s cards, I’m showing you how easy it is to make a sentiment the focal part of the card. This is a great way to make modern clean and simple cards quickly, and are great to make several in one go. So for these two cards, I’m using two sentiment stamps from Picket Fence studios – both are good staple sentiments to have in your stash. In addition, I’m using to embossing glitters from WOW! To add a little sparkle.
PRIZES – No Blog hop is complete without a prize!
WOW! Embossing Powders has 6 powders of your choosing along with a WOW carry case to store your powders safely in.
Picket Fence is giving away a $50 gift certificate to their store.
The Winners will be chosen at random from the comments left on THE POSTS.
To join this GIVEAWAY you must leave a comment on each blog post to have a chance at getting your hands on the prize. This hop is open internationally.

Creating the embossed backgrounds
For the first card, I’m using a stencil I created on my Silhouette Cameo, but you can use a stencil you have to hand. Adhere the stencil to a piece of white cardstock using some washi tape to keep it in place.
To apply the ink over the stencil, just use the direct to paper method and smoosh the ink pad down over the stencil. This ink takes a while to dry, so you don’t have to worry about being fast when applying this over a large area like this. Once you’re happy with the amount of ink, you’ll want to remove the stencil to add the embossing glitter.
For the first card, use the High Heels Embossing glitter – this is a lovely silver embossing powder and silver glitter mix which is stunning when heat set. When heat setting embossing glitter, it is best to start off applying your heat from underneath the card. This way the embossing powder will start to melt and trap the glitter. If you heat from above, sometimes the heat gun will blow the glitter off before it has had a chance to be trapped in the melted powder.
Repeat the steps of applying ink and the powder several times to get a nice even coverage of the powder.
To create the background for the second card, use some regular post-it notes to mask off an area at one end of the card. Whilst using some blending brushes, apply Skylight ink by Catherine Pooler to the card and fade the colour out softly to create an almost ombre look.
Repeat this step with the other end of the cardstock panel leaving a white space in the middle and use Daydream Ink by Catherine Pooler for a darker finish. Now to add the embossing powder, make sure the ink has dried before adhering the stencil down. Again, I’ve masked off the inner potion to keep it clean for the sentiment later.
Once more, apply the embossing ink over the stencil with the direct to paper method and cover with Long Island teal Embossing Glitter from WOW!. This is a lovely mix of teal embossing powder with small gold flecks of glitter in it and pairs well with this colour scheme. Remember to heat set form underneath to ensure you trap the glitter.
Adding the sentiments
For the teal card, place the panel in your MISTI and position the ‘Thank you’ stamp from Picket fence studios on the card panel in the white space area that was masked off. Stamp the sentiment in Versafine onyx black pigment ink as it stamps perfectly and is a dark crisp black colour.
For the other card, use a piece of vellum cut using a stitched rectangle die and treat with an anti-static bag as vellum can hold static more than paper. WNext, stamp the ‘Happy Happy Happy Birthday’ sentiment from Picket Fence Studios and cover with Primary Ebony Black embossing powder from WOW! Embossing powder melts quickly on vellum, so make sure you move the gun around to prevent warping of the vellum.
To assemble the cards, trim both panels down and foam mount on to 5.5″ x 4.25″ white card bases. To adhere the vellum panel, apply small amounts of glossy accents on the back of the vellum piece behind the embossing sentiment to hide the glue. To finish the cards off, use Morning Dew and Silver Lining Nuvo Crystal Drops to embellish the cards.
