Cards can really stand out when you use contrasting colours for a bold look. Today, I created two bold cards with contrasting colours using the new Altenew Build-A-Flower Bellaroma Hybrid Tea Rose stamp & die set as part of the release blog hop. This is such a pretty flower and these flowers have a different colour towards the edges of the petals, giving them a beautiful look.
Whilst I was making these, I kept in mind what colour contrasts with the yellow/coral tones to help make them pop. Remember you’re the colour wheel? Well, blue sits opposite more orange tones and the coral from the petals compliments blue and this lead to the contrasting background!
If you’re hopping along, you should have come from Rosie Neustaedter or you can always start at the beginning on the Altenew Card Blog.

New products will go live in the Altenew shop at 12:01 am EST on 02/01/2021.
Make sure you check out the end of the post for more details on the hop, along with your next stop!

Bold cards with contrasting colours: stamping the Bellaroma Hybrid Tea Rose stamp
Start off by stamping the outline layer of the rose and leaf cluster from the Build-A-Flower Bellaroma Hybrid Tea Rose stamp & die set. As I plan on a coral colour for the outer parts of the petals, I matched the colour of the rose outline to this using Altenew Coral Berry ink from the Red Cosmo mini ink set. For the leaf outline, stamp this in Altenew Hunter’s Green ink Zesty Limes mini cube set.

Next, stamp the first bold layer of the rose in Altenew Citrus Burst ink from the Pocketful of Sunshine Mini Cube set. Remember to condition your stamps before you ink them up. The first layer of the leaf cluster is stamped in Altenew Fresh leaf ink from the Zesty Limes mini cube set.

For the layer that adds the colour to the edges of the petal, stamp this in Coral Berry ink and stamp the last layer of the leaves in Hunter’s Green ink. The last layer of the rose is stamped in Maple Yellow for a little more definition and depth to the centre from the Pocketful of Sunshine Mini Cube set. Once all the stamping is complete, use the coordinating die to die-cut the images out.
Bold cards with contrasting colours: Card 1
For the background on this card, adhere the Altenew Broken Chevron stencil down over the top and with a blending foam pad and tool, add white pigment ink. Pounce this over the stencil to prevent it from moving.

Make sure the background is dry before foam mounting the roses onto the card panel down one side. Use different depths of dimension for added interest, and tuck the leaves in between. Next, use a guillotine or scissors to cut of any excess that over hangs.
Finish the card off by adding a heat embossed sentiment from the stamp set, fussy cutting around the word ‘Celebrate’. Lastly, embellish with a few sequins scattered in and around the design.
Bold cards with contrasting colours: Card 2
For this card, die-cut a circle out of blue card and heat emboss a sentiment in white offset to one side on the circle. Foam mount this circle onto a white card base.

Next, adhere a rose opposite the sentiment and tuck in leaf clusters underneath. Lastly, embellish with a few sequins for a quick and easy CAS card.
