WOW! & Catherine Pooler Hop!

Cloud 9 Angel Wings

For the first card, we are using the Angel wings die set from Catherine Pooler Designs. To start, die cut the wings out regular 80lb white cardstock . In addition, these were also cut these out of thicker cardstock as I wanted to keep the inners of the wings in, so I intentionally used the thicker card so it wouldn’t cut all the way through. To make sure you don’t lose any loose pieces, I just add a little washi tape to the back.

Using some blending brushes, apply Skylight to the bottom of the wing and bring this colour upwards fading it out as you move up the wing.  To intensify the bottom of the wing, just keep adding more colour.

Next, repeat the same process but with Aquatini, and apply this to the top of the wing and doing exactly the same by fading the colour out towards the middle.

After you’ve completed the blending, you can see how the colour pops through the full cut wings die cut when you overlay them. You could leave it with the white card adhere to the top, but I wanted to step the wings up a bit more.

To do this, take the full wings die-cut and smoosh this down into your Clear Ultra slow drying embossing ink from WOW! Next cover this in Cloud 9 embossing glitter.

To adhere the embossed wings down,  just add dabs of Gina K connect glue on the back of the wings and lining up the die cuts before pressing down.

For the background of the card, you can add some tone on tone texture that won’t detract from the wings. Score a white card panel at every 3/4 inch down with a Teflon bone folder and a score board.

For the sentiment,  heat embossing ‘Wish you a bright Christmas’ onto black card in WOW! Metallic Platinum powder from the Merry Christmas Angel stamp.

Next, adhere both of the wings on to the card panel with some fun foam added behind to add a little dimension to the card. The sentiment was trimmed down into thin strips and foam mounted on the card.

To finish this first card off, add a few sequins from the Ice crystal sequin mix from Lucy’s cards and adhere these down in with Liquid glue along with a Pick me up tool.

Faux shadow die cut mask

For the second card, I’m using the Angel word die from Catherine Pooler along with the Skylight Embossing Glitter Inspired by Catherine Pooler from WOW! I created a shadow mask for the die, so using some Inkadinkadoo masking paper, draw an offset around the angel die. You need to place the die with the word die facing down onto the masking paper with the white side facing up. Next, just using a pencil,  freehand draw an offset line following the shape of the word die.

Once the outline is complete, use scissors to fussy cut around the lines. Now, peel the release paper off and position the mask onto your card panel.

For this card, usethe same colours Aquatini and Skylight to blend ink onto the panel, with Aquatini at the top and Skylight over the bottom, fading each colour out softly. The mask will keep that area nice an white to help highlight the sentiment when we add it later.

Now, don’t worry if you blending at this point isn’t completely smooth because we can add some texture to the background. Catherine Pooler inks are reactive when you add water to them, so using a paintbrush, splatter water over the panel. Allow this to sit for a few seconds before mopping git up with a dry cloth and you get these soft light colours of ink where the water has been, and it almost looks like snow. You can repeat this as much as you like depending on how busy you want the background to be.

Of course, the best bit is peeling the mask off to reveal the crisp white negative space left with the link blending that adds a perfect highlight to the sentiment.

For the die-cut sentiment, die cut the angel word 3 times from white card and using Gina K liquid glue, adhere the layers together for a dimensional die-cut. Next,  heat emboss the sentiment in the Skylight embossing powder inspired by Catherine Pooler by WOW!

To do this, smoosh the layered die-cut in your ultra slow drying embossing pad and then cover with the embossing glitter. To heat-set use your WOW!  heat gun and it so fun to watch this powder melt. Now, you can repeat this several times to get several layers of the powder to build up the colour on the die-cut.

In addition, heat emboss the smaller sentiments onto black card, again using the platinum embossing powder and cut down into thin strips to mount onto to the card panel. The angel word die cut was adhered down with liquid glue to make sure it stayed put.

Lastly, finished the card off with the same sequins as the previous card.
