Colour can evoke different emotions and I took the Altenew In The Mood For Colouring class where we looked at 6 different colours and how they can radiate a different feeling or emotion. This is such a fun thing to think about when making your card, what emotion do you want the recipient to feel and which colour best represents this. One colour I love create with evokes calm and tranquil emotions, so I paired it with a single rose and used tranquil blue hues to create a calming thank you card. So let’s get started!

Tranquil blue hues for cardmaking: colouring the flower
Start off by stamping one of the roses from the Altenew Flower Garden stamp set onto Strathmore Tone Tan paper in black ink. I choose Toned Tan paper as I wanted to colour with my pencils and this is a create surface for blending.

Next, I coloured in the rose with my Polychromos Pencils adding darker shads in the folds and groves of the petals with the lightest blues and whites on the highlights. In addition, I also stamped and colour the leaves as well. After the colouring was complete, these were fussy cut out or you can use the coordinating dies.

Tranquil blue hues for cardmaking: adding a calming background
To add interest to the background and to add more tranquil blue hues ink blend Fiesta Blue and Suede Shoes ink onto a piece of Ocean Mist cardstock. Using the Altenew Pure White Ink Spray onto the background and once dry, add three stripes of Delicate Stripes Washi tape towards the bottom.

Foam mount the flower and leaves onto the card panel with varying depths of foam pads to add depth and dimension. To finish the card, add a heat embossed sentiment in WOW! Opaque bright white embossing powder from the Altenew Handpicked Bouquet Stamp set. Lastly, add a few blue sequins to embellish the card.
