Stretching your Christmas stamps/dies (WOW! Embossing and Catherine Pooler Blog hop!)

In today’s video, I’ve got two cards for you using stamps and dies that were originally released around Christmas. However, today these cards show how stretching your Christmas stamps and dies are so easy and you can create cards that could be sent any time of the year. This video is part of a blog hop between WOW! Embossing powder and Catherine Pooler, where the Design Teams have joined forces to bring you some stamping & heat embossing fun. Some of the design team are using some fabulous new products from both Catherine Pooler Designs and WOW! Embossing Powders stores.

Blog hop details and prizes!

Both companies are giving away a prize each:

WOW! Embossing Powder – $25 Gift Card

Catherine Pooler Designs – $25 Gift Card

To join this GIVEAWAY you must leave a comment on the designer’s blog post and each comment you leave is an entry for a chance at getting your hands on these prizes.

Stretching you Christmas Stamps/dies card 1

For this first card, we’re going to use the Angel wings die and the Angel word die from Catherine pooler, which is still available to buy in her shop. First of all, die-cut the wings from 80lb Neenah Classic Crest Solar White card about 6 times. Next, add liquid glue to the back of the die-cuts and ahere these down on a white card panel.  Keep adding more wings in a variety of orientations over the panel to create a tone of tone background with a lot of texture. This will add interest to the background but will not detract too much from the sentiment later on.

Once most of the panel is covered,  use your guillotine to trim off the excess overhang, but don’t get rid of these pieces. We can use the off-cuts to fill in any gaps around the edge and this will make the panel look more finished. Again, trim off any overhang and reuse once more for any other gaps.

Adding sparkle to the sentiment

For the sentiment, smoosh clear ultra-slow dry embossing pad down on to a piece of white card, coating it quite liberally with ink. Next, cover with Sage embossing glitter mix from Catherine Pooler’s Bundled Up Trio with WOW! Embossing powder.  To heat set this, it is best to heat set from underneath to ensure the glitter does not fly off before the powder melts and traps it. For a nice smooth application, repeat adding ink and powder.

Using your embossed card,  run the Angel word die through your die-cutting machine and cut another 3 out of white card stock. Layer these angel word die-cuts up using liquid glue and adhere the embossed die-cut on the top.

To go with the sentiment, Catherine pooler Believe An Angels stamp set, which is still available, is great for creating custom sentiments as this has lots of individual words. For this card, heat emboss ‘you are my real life’ in WOW! Opaque Bright embossing powder to go with angel word die.

The background panel was trimmed down to give a ¼ inch border and foam mounted this onto a card panel. The sentiments were then adhered to the front and the embossed strips were popped up on foam pads for dimension Lastly, a selection of Lucy’s cards Crystal Circles sprinkle sequins were added to the front.

Stretching you Christmas Stamps/dies card 2

For card number two, we are going to create a pair of rainbow wings but we’re going for more of a pastel rainbow. The Catherine Pooler inks in the Spa collection is perfect for this as it has lovely more muted colours. To add the colour, use blending brushes rather than a blending tool and sponge to add a light application of ink. So the first colour to use is Peppermint scrub, followed by Mandarin Spice, Shea Butter, Seafoam, Skylight, Juniper mist and lastly finishing with Sangria – which is now my favourite pinky purple colour. Don’t worry about getting the best blend as when you die cut the wings out, as they are so delicate you won’t really see any patchy blending.

For this card, we are going to create a gatefold card for the wings to sit on when you open up the card. Take a piece of 5.5” by 8.5” white card and score this at 2 1/8th inches before rotating the panel and scoring at 2 1/8th inches again. For a little more interest, add score lines horizontally across each gatefold panel at ¼”.

adding sparkle to the wings

To give more dimension, add the ink blended wings to layered wing die-cuts cut out of Soft Stone card stock. Now before adhering them to the card, we can add a little sparkle, by smooshing your ink pad down onto the die cuts. Next, cover this WOW! Clear Hologram Sparkle which has fine iridescent glitter in it.

For a sentiment, and as a reveal, we can add a vellum belly band. Take a piece of vellum is about 2” wide and 9.5 inches long. and score at 2 and quarter inches and 7 inches to create a wrap around the card. Before sealing the band, we can add the sentiment. For this card, use the fancy Angel stamp from the Believe in Angels stamp set. Stamp in embossing ink and cover with Primary Ebony embossing powder before heat setting.

To seal the wrap, put double-sided adhesive on each end of the band, and holding the band in place on the front of the card whilst wrapping the ends around and adhering down on to one another. Lastly, add a ‘you are my’ white heat embossed on black card sentiment from the stamp set onto the vellum to finish the sentiment off.
