Soft floral no-line colouring – Beautiful Day floral

Soft floral no-line colouring can be daunting to come but you can achieve it with just a little patience. Pair it with dark cardstock and you can create a beautiful and striking card easily. This floral stamp is part of the Catherine Pooler Designs Beautiful New Year release, and I added a touch of gold embossing to add gorgeous highlights to the centre of the card. So let’s get started, and you can check out the video tutorial to see my colouring process.

Soft floral no-line colouring: colouring the flower

Stamp the Beautiful Day Floral stamp set onto Hero Arts Nautical Hero Hues cardstock in WOW! Clear ultra slow drying embossing ink. Now it is time to start colouring the flowers in. You can start by adding a layer of white pencil down to the whole of a pattern before starting to add colour. The white can help give a more vibrant colour on dark card.

Start by adding the lightest shade of pink to the petal, but do not add the lightest colour to the areas of highlight just yet. Next, start adding a darker shade of ink in areas where there is shadow/definition to a petal. Lastly, add the darkest shade of pink only to the very deepest part of the shadows. After this, go back in reverse order with the colours blending between them and go over the highlighted area with the lightest pink.

Repeat the same process for the leaves.

Soft floral no-line colouring: adding detail to the background

Once coloured, use the coordinating die to cut the floral image out. Next, use the WOW! Embossing Pen to add strokes to the middle of the flowers, mimicking the design of the stamp. In addition, also add dots of embossing ink to the centre of the flowers and cover this all with WOW! Metallic Gold Rich embossing powder.

For the card base, repeatedly stamp the Beautiful Day Floral stamp set over the background, rotating for variation along with a few of the smaller stamps from the sets.

Soft floral no-line colouring: assembling the card

To assemble the card, foam mount the coloured floral onto the front of the card base. In addition, stamp a sentiment from the stamp set in Juniper Mist ink onto white card, trimming this down to add to the front of the card.

Lastly, add a few sequins from the Pierre sequin mix set scattering them around the card.
