In today’s video I’ve got a quick and easy heat embossed watercolouring card for, and what’s so great about this is you don’t have to be a perfect watercolourist to get the look. If you struggle with no-line watercolouring then this could be just for you. Heat embossing acts a little barrier between different sections of the image preventing the colours from bleeding into one another. I’m also using some fabulous Earth Sparkles with Paper laze to create a lovely textured background. So let’s get started.
PRODUCED AS PART OF MY DESIGN-TEAM WORK FOR WOW! Embossing powder - SEE END OF POST FOR MORE DETAILS
Creating the textured background
For this card, we’re going to use the Pucker Up stamp set along with the Watercolour Brush Strokes stencil from Picket Fence Studios. Start off by taping the stencil down over some Gina K Soft Stone cardstock. To create the background, add some Snowdrop White Paper Glaze from Picket Fence Studios to one side of the card panel with a spatula.

To get even pressure so the glaze doesn’t squidge under the stencil at different points use a Stencil Pal from Therm O Web to drag the glaze over the card. Now make sure you drag the glaze in the same direction of the stencil stripes, again to reduce the chance of the glaze seeping under the stencil. Once you have good coverage, you may want to use a small spatula to go over and smooth out any imperfections.

Now, to give it a little more interest, we can add some WOW! Earth Sparkles in Hammerhead. As the paper glaze is still wet, we can sprinkle the glitter over the glaze and it will stick drying with the glaze. Todo this, use a small metal spatula to gently sprinkle the glitter over the panel and then tap off any excess.
Creating the heat embossing
For the watercolouring part of the card, place the Pucker Up lemons stamp into a MISTI with some watercolour cardstock and ink the stamp up with WOW! Clear Ultra Slow drying embossing ink. As we’re stamping onto watercolour cardstock, repeating inking and stamping to make sure you get a good impression on this textured surface.

To tie in with the other colours on the card so far, cover this with WOW! Metallic Silver Superfine embossing powder and heat set. The superfine version will ensure it keeps all that fine detail in the stamp.
To start watercolouring, use you Altenew Watercolour 36 pan set. I’m sticking with traditional colours here with my painting and colouring the lemons in yellow. It’s why I went for a silver-grey scheme in the rest of the card to allow the yellow to pop. Now you can choose any colour if your prefer rather than sticking to tradition.

Colouring and finishing the card off

After all the colouring is complete, cut out the image either with the coordinating die or fussy cut with scissors. Once the panel is dry, foam mount it onto a card base made out of Gina K Slate cardstock having timed the panel down to 5.25” by 4″.
The lemons were foam mounted onto the panel offset to one side and the sentiment ‘Sweet with a little sass’, which comes in the Pucker up stamp set, was heat embossed in white onto black card. This was foam mounted off to one side.
