Pearl embossing powders are beautiful powders to use over a coloured card, but what about using them over coloured dye inks? You can combine your coloured stamping with pearl embossing powder for stunning and elegant designs, and today I’m showing you how easy it is to use pearl embossing powders over dye inks.
The stamp set I’m using today is the ‘Round & Round’ stamp set from WOW! Embossing powders, and I’m going to use the largest stamp within this set.
Now I’ve gotten my MISTI out to stamp today for this technique as you need to stamp several times over the same exact spot. If you’re good at aligning stamps up with your acrylic blocks then you can give this a try, and there are other stamping positioners out on the market that can work just as well.

Adding pearl embossing powder over dye inks
First of all, stamp the large design in Rose Petal ink from Catherine Pooler Designs which is dye ink. Now, most dye inks you can’t emboss, though Catherine Poolers inks, if you work fast enough stay wet a little longer than regular dye inks so you can cover with embossing powder. However, I’m showing you how to do it with any dye ink.

Once you have stamped it in the dye ink, next, without removing your stamp from your stamping platform, clean your stamp and then ink up with WOW! Clear Ultra slowing drying embossing ink. Close the door and stamp down. This will apply clear ink over your dye ink stamped image.

Now remove the card from your stamping platform and cover this with White Pearl embossing powder. Of course, the magic occurs when you apply the heat with your dual speed heat gun and the powder melts. White Pearl embossing powder will melt and take on the colour it is overlying given a slightly pearlescent darker colour.
completing the design

To continue making the card, stamp the design in a variety of dye inks, each time also stamping with the clear embossing ink to add the pearl embossing powder and heat set for the pearlescent shine. For this ombre look use Party Dress, Peppermint, Royal Treatment, and Juniper Mist inks from Catherine Pooler Designs.

Once all the colours were heat set, use a pair of scissors to fussy cut around the design right up against the edge. When creating the card, I knew I wanted to create a fun gradient background with these designs and thought the design lent itself to creating a gradient stepped dimension to the background as well.
Starting with the darkest colour first, the design was adhered to a card panel made out of Lawn Fawn Fog Cardstock and each layer was added with another layer of foam pads to add the dimension and to step the design up.
finishing the card

The sentiment ‘Love makes the world go round’ from the ‘Round& Round’ stamp set was heat embossed in Opaque Bright white embossing powder from WOW onto black cardstock which was trimmed down into a thin strip. To ensure you adhere it straight, use a T-ruler to liner the strip up and adhere it with Gina K Connect glue.

Lastly, to finish the card off, use a variety of sizes, I used Rock Candy Confetti Mix from Trinity Stamps, and adhere these with liquid glue.
