Do you want to get more from your dye inks? Have you tried to paint with them? Well, today I’m showing you how to paint with dye inks whilst creating this elegant wedding card using the new One Plus One release from Catherine Pooler Designs.
For this card, I’m using the ‘This calls for Cake’ stamp and die set, which as a lovely large decorative cake perfect for a wedding, but you can easily use it for a sophisticated stylish birthday card to, just change up the sentiment. So, lets get painting with dye inks!

Adding a touch of glam!
To start off, heat emboss the cake onto a piece of Catherine Pooler Designs Premium white cardstock using your MISTI stamping platform. Ink the stamp up with WOW! Clear Ultra slow drying embossing ink and cover with WOW! Metallic Gold embossing powder. Heat set this with your heat gun.

In addition, stamp the sentiment ‘Just married’ from the stamp set and position this in the middle of the cake. Again, stamp and heat emboss this in gold embossing powder.
Die-cut the cake using the coordinating die – you may wish to use some purple tape to keep it in place.

Painting with dye inks
To paint with dye inks, smoosh Rose Petals ink pad down on to an acrylic block. This provides a small pool of the ink for you to dip your brush into as the block acts as a palette. Start adding Rose Petals to the largest floral, and if you want a slightly lighter colour, dilute this with a small amount of water.
If you’re using regular cardstock like I am rather than watercolour, just be mindful about how much water you add as the card will only take so much before it starts to pill.
So I’m adding ink to the flower all over before then going in with the undiluted ink to the base of the petals to add a little definition. If you’re not a greater painter, the heat embossing reduces the ink moving outside of the areas you are painting.
For the florals, use a combination of Rose Petals and Peppermint Scrub to colour them in, using the Peppermint Scrub to create shadows. For the leaves, use Spruce and Eucalyptus green inks for variation.

Finishing the card off
To create the rest of the card die-cut the Polka Dot cover plate die out of a piece of white cardstock. Once die-cut, trim this down a quarter of an inch to add a white frame to the background.
Add white foam pads to the back of the die-cut to pop it up with some dimension, but if you don’t have time or find this too tedious, then adhere it straight down without dimension.
To add the cake, foam mount it onto the middle of the card. Lastly, to embellish the card using a selection from the Flamenco Bay sequin mix.
