The new Christmas release from Catherine Pooler features a great new patterned paper pack with very traditional Christmas colours. But I want to show you how to create modern Christmas cards with patterned paper. I have three different ways for you to add patterned paper into your cards so I hope there is a style or technique for you!

Modern Christmas card: Die-cutting with patterned paper
For this first card, use the present die from the Caroling Sentiment coordinating dies and die-cut three presents from the All Wrapped Up Paper pack. Three is a create number when it comes to design and we can align these horizontally on a slime-line card.
In addition, die-cut the top of the present from gold mirror card and adhere these to the top of the card. Also trim small strips out of the same card to adhere to the front of the present to complete the ribbon. Foam mount the presents on to a white slim-line card.
For the sentiment, use Cranberry Fizz (a new Catherine Pooler Ink!) with direct to paper method to create your own coloured card. Heat emboss ‘Merry Christmas’ from the Jolly Trees stamp set and trim down to a banner strip. Adhere this to the front of the card. Lastly, add a selection of sequins from the Mistletoe Sequin Mix.
Modern Christmas cards: Anchoring stamping with patterned paper
For this card, stamp the layering Christmas tree from the ‘Jolly Trees’ stamp set. The top layer is stamped in Lime Rickey, the second layer in Grass Skirt and the last later is in ‘Deck The Halls’ – the other new CP ink colour! You may find it easy to die-cut first and the stamp the tree.
Once stamped and die-cut, position the trees onto your card and place different papers from the ‘All wrapped up’ paper pack until you have found a pattern you like. To balance out the pattern, only apply it to one half of a card base to allow the white to contrast against it.
In addition, stamp and die-cut three stars for the tops of trees ink Tiara Ink. Foam mount the trees and stars onto the front of the panel. Add a white heat embossed sentiment from the same stamp set and add to the front of the card.
Lastly, add sequins from the Mistletoe sequin mix scattering these around the card.
Modern Christmas Cards: Patterned paper backgrounds
With a stitched rectangle, die-cut a rectangle slightly smaller than your card base. Add two strips of gold mirror card to the front, as through it is a present.
Stamp the present from the ‘Caroling Sentiments’ stamp set. To multicolour stamp set, use a MISTI platform and ink up just the bow in Deck The Halls ink. Afterwards, then ink up only the sentiment in Cranberry Fizz ink and then use the coordinating die to die-cut this out.
Foam mount the present onto the centre of the card front. With all the pattern and shine to the card, this card is finished.
