Isn’t this little sloth cute?! He is part of my first card that I’m featuring over on the Sunshine & Bee designs blog and this little scene was so fun to make! This card is a perfect card for a friend in need, whether life is stressing them out or they just need a bit of a reminder to have some ‘Me time’ the recipient will love receiving this little critter through the post!

Colouring the meditating sloth
Start off by stamping the sitting down sloth onto some smooth watercolour paper in Versafine Onyx black ink so you can watercolour later on. In addition, stamp this again onto either some masking paper, full-adhesive post-it notes or a scrap piece of paper. Next, fussy cut out this second stamped image and place over the top of the sloth on the watercolour card. If you use scrap paper, adhere with some reposition adhesive.

Now stamp the cushion over the base of the sloth; when you remove your mask you will have a little sloth sitting on the cushion with no overlapping of the stamping. You can now colour the little sloth in. I used my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush markers for this, but you can use any watercolour medium you prefer. When I googled sloths for colour reference, they tend to have darker fur around their eyes and a paler face/stomach.
Don’t forget to add a little shading to the cush with some greys, or you can colour in the cushion in a different colour. When he is all coloured in, fussy cut him out.

Creating the background
For the background, ink blend Blueprint Sketch and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxides onto a piece of Powder Blue Gina K Cardstock using blending brushes. Start off with the lightest colour first and blend two-thirds of the way down the card. Repeat with the darker colour but only blend a third of the way down the card. Add a few splatters of Altenew Pure White Ink spray for a starry night look.

For the grassy area, die-cut a grass border from green cardstock (Palm and Kwiwi Hero Hues Cardstock), cutting this twice from the lighter shade. Next, using the blending brushes, apply Forest Moss distress oxide to one of the lighter pieces for a shade in between the two colour of cardstocks. Also, ink blend a little Mowed lawn onto the bottom of the lighter piece for some added interest.

Assembling the card
Cut the background down and mount onto a white card base. Before adding more to the background, heat emboss the sentiment ‘Meditate until you fall asleep’ in WOW! Metallic Gold Rich Pale embossing powder and heat set.
Next, layer up the grass borders with foam tape in between each layer for dimension and add depth to the scene. Add foam dimension to the back of the sloth and adhere to the centre of the card.

Lastly, add a few Tonic White Gloss Nuvo Crystal drops to the scene as added texture to the night sky.
