Making your stamping pop

When I saw this Bold Bunch stamp set I thought I need to pair it with a bold design. To do this, I wanted the stamping to really pop off the card so one way to make your stamping pop is to use bright colours against dark coloured cardstock. Gina K Designs has a whole range of fabulous colours for making your stamping pop, and I used two of my favourite dark colours of hers for these two cards.

Making your stamping pop!: Stamping the bold flowers

Start off by placing the first layer of each flower into your MISTI stamping platform – this will be the bold solid layer out of the two for each flower. The Altenew stamps have a booklet insert and on the back, it shows you how to layer up each flower.

Stamp the flowers in a range of colours, here I went for a purple, pink/red and a blue. I used a selection of Catherine Pooler Inks – See the supply list at the end for the colours used here.

Rotate your cardstock in your MISTI and stamp as you will want plenty of flowers to play about and layer later on. When you are happy with the number of flowers, remove the first layer stamps from your MISTI and position the second decorative layer over the stamping. Stamp this layer in a darker shade and keep stamping until all flowers are complete.

Making your stamping pop!: Die-cutting the elements

When ready, use Purple tape to align the co-ordinating dies over the top of the flowers and send through your die-cutting machine to cut out. In addition, stamp a selection of leaves from the stamp set in a variety of shades of green and again use the coordinating dies to cut these out. Now put the stamping to one side whilst you work on the remainder of the cards.

Next, decide on a sentiment your wish to add to the cards and using the Altenew Tall Alpha dies, die-cut this out of white cardstock. Make sure you cut each letter out 2-3 times to layer up with Gina K connect glue for dimension.

To add more interest to the sentiment, cover the bottom of the letters with WOW! clear ultra slow drying embossing ink. Next, cover this with WOW! Metallic Gold Rich embossing powder and heat set. This gives the look of a dip-dye sentiment. In addition, heat embossed a secondary sentiment of your choosing onto a strip of black card.

Making your stamping pop!: Assembling the cards

Create a card base out of Gina K Edible Eggplant cardstock and another out of Gina K Slate cardstock as well as a card panel 1/4″ small then each card base. Foam mount the card panels onto each card base.

To add more interest, die-cut 3-4 circle frames outs of white cardstock using the Nesting Circle Infinity Dies from Hero Arts. What’s great about these dies, is you can create as thin or thick a circle frame as you want!

To assemble the card, adhere the circle frame onto the card base and using a combination of Connect glue and foam pads, adhere the flowers and leaves around the circle. Next, add the die-cut sentiment along with the heat embossed sentiment to the front of the circles. Finish the cards off with a few clear embellishments to look like dew drops on the flowers.
