In today’s card making tutorial I’ve got more inspiration using the latest release from Catherine Pooler Designs Celebrate Spring. This fun and easy card making technique use your dye inks to create fun inky backgrounds. With a little smooching of your inks on your acrylic blocks, you can create fun backgrounds to print. All you need to do is add a sentiment and a focal point and your background is complete. This technique will allow you to create backgrounds quickly, which you can then turn into a cohesive pack of greeting cards to gift out!

Stamp flowers and leaves from the Fresh Picked Florals stamp set in Twilight ink. Next, stamp the second layer in a variety of inks. I used colours from the Happy Mama Patten paper: Be Mine, Coral Cobana, Samba, Tiara, Cumberbund, Minted and In The Park. Use the coordinating dies to cut these out.

For this background, smoosh Cumberbund ink down over the top half of a rectangle acrylic block. Smoosh Tiara ink over the remainder of the block and then spritz with water so the ink beads up.
Press a card panel over to the top to pick up the colour. Set this to one side to dry and once dry, trim down before foam mounting onto a card black. Stamp set sentiment from the Mother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink and embellished with the stamped flowers and sequins from the Helsinki Sequin mix.

Soft blue turns to yellow!
This card uses the leftover ink on the rectangle acrylic block from the previous card. Do not wipe the ink off, but instead spritz it with water again and press a card panel down to pick up the colour.

Once the card panel has dried, add some of the Fresh Picked Florals stamp/die-cuts around a stamped sentiment. This sentiment also comes from the Mother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink.
Again the card was finished with sequins from the Helsinki Sequin mix, scattered around the card panel.

Blue blends into pink!
For this card, I used a long rectangle acrylic block. I smooshed Cumberbund ink along the top half of the block and Be Mine, along the bottom half. Spritz with water before taking a print by pressing a card panel down over the top of the block.

The pink and blue colours blend with the water to create a soft purple-pink transition. Another sentiment was stamped from the Mother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink.
The card was embellished with colour coordinating florals from the Fresh Picked Florals stamp set and embellished with sequins from the Helsinki Sequin mix.

Soft delicate lillies!
This light background was created with the leftover ink from the previous card having been spritzed with water again. It is such a soft look to it with the left side fading out to white.

I thought the delicate Lillies from the Fresh Picked Florals stamp set were perfect for this background panel.
Another sentiment was stamped from the Mother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink and embellished with Helsinki Sequin mix.

Tranquil turquoise
This card has the boldest background yet is still so soft. I used In The Park ink on the top half of a rectangle acrylic block and Cumberbund on the bottom half. After spritzing with water I took a print of the block and set it to one side to dry.

I added mainly foilage to decorate this card from the Fresh Picked Florals stamp set, keeping the colours coordinated. Another sentiment was added using theMother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink.
There are some beautiful soft colours in the Helsinki Sequin mix and these pair beautifully with this card to embellish the stamping.

Fading out to white!
This card was created with the leftover ink from the previous card. As it is more water than ink, the background fades out softly into white.

Florals and leaves from the Fresh Picked Florals stamp set were added with colour corresponding colours but also with a pop of yellow to create contrast.
Another sentiment was added using the Mother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink and embellished with sequins from the Helsinki Sequin mix.

Soft corals!

The card above is the card I showed you HERE last week. This is such a bold background, but of course, I spritzed the block again with water to get a lighter print. The colours used were Tiara, Coral Cobana and Samba.

I embellished the background with a few simple florals from the Fresh Picked Florals stamp set and added a sentiment. This is another sentiment from the Mother’s and Daughters stamp set in Black Jack ink.
The sequins for this card come from the Pierre Sequin mix and embellished the florals as though they were berries.
