Loose Watercoloured Florals

When I was browsing the Bumbleberry shop, the Flower Garden stamp set from Altenew stood out and I knew it would be perfect to colour in. If you’re like me and don’t always want to spend hours colouring in, this stamp set is perfect for loose water colouring with heat embossing. This technique allows you to add colour but you don’t have to be perfect and it will still look amazing. Loose watercoloured florals often create very modern artistic looking cards with hardly any effort, yet the recipient will think you spent ouse on it!

Loose watercoloured florals

creating the Loose watercoloured florals

To start off, stamp a selection of the florals and leaves from the Altenew Flower Garden stamp set onto watercolour paper using your MISTI stamping platform. Make sure you use embossing ink to stamp the designs so you can cover this with Platinum embossing powder. Heat set the powder using a heat gun and you’re now ready to colour.

For the colouring, first, apply clean clear water over all the florals and lightly add in some colour to each of the flowers allowing the colour to softly blend out. The colours used on the florals were Puffy Heart and Midnight Violet.

Allow the first layer of colour and then using clear water again, lightly add the water over the nooks of the petals. Next, drop in a more concentrated colour of Puffy Heart and Midnight violet, again allowing the colour to move and blend out. Allow this layer to dry and repeat one more time to intensify the colours in the nooks to give depth and definition to the flowers.

creating the card base elements

Next, repeat this process with the leaves, adding clear water first before dropping in Bamboo and Forest Glades greens over the foliage. Once the flowers and leaves are dry, either use the coordinating dies or fussy cut out the florals and foilage.
For the background, stamp the PinStripe background stamp onto white card stock in soft grey ink. Trim this card panel down to 1/4″ smaller than an A2 card base. For the card base, create this out of Gina K Slate cardstock and adhere the card panel on to the front.

Assembling the cards

For the sentiment, heat emboss in Platinum embossing powder the sentiment ‘Thank you for being so thoughtful’ onto black card and trim this down into a strip. Next, foam mount the florals and leaves onto the card with varying dimension using 3D foam squares for interest.

To draw the eye in, cluster the flowers around the sentiment and up the card to create movement in the card. Lastly, add a few clear embellishment drops to the card to finish the scene off.
