Welcome to the first of my ink blending colourways series! I know there is quite a lot out there on colour combinations with Distress inks/Oxides, but if you love Catherine Pooler Ink like me, then you may struggle to find as much inspiration. Well, not any more as I’m starting a little series of colourways with the fabulous CP ink! So I have three colour combination in today’s ink blending colourways series 1.

If you’ve only got a few, want to complete your collection or need to get some re-inkers well then you’re in luck as Catherine Pooler is starting her Black Friday sale today and inks are included in this sale. The inks are never included in the sale, so this is a big moment and they’re likely to sell out so make sure you shop soon! To shop the sale, visit HERE.
The benefits of CAtherine Pooler Design Inks:
If you’re not familiar with CP ink, well then you’re in for a treat! So what makes them so great you ask? Well, there are two main collections in the range: Party collection with vibrant colours and Spa collection with more muted softer tones. The inks are also water-reactive, stamp perfectly smooth with solid images, can be used with embossing powders. They are also free from colour transfer allowing you to stamp in one colour and then another without worrying about the colour transferring. And lastly, the main reason behind today’s post is they are beautiful blend!
My tips for blending:
When it comes to ink blending cardstock is key! Either go for a smooth cardstock or a watercolour cardstock. For these today, I used Catherine Pooler cardstock, but you may wish to try Distress watercolour cardstock or Bristol Smooth Cardstock.
Now there are a lot of ink blending tools out of the market now, all have the pros and cons and it all depends on what you wanting to achieve. For softer ink blending, think about using the ink blending brushes like those from Picket Fence studios or the ergonomic versions from Altenew or Pink & Main. The difference between these is how you like to hold the tool. For a deeper and vibrant ink colour, an ink blending tool like those from Ranger will suit the blend. If you’re using the blending tool, make sure the foam pad it is fully soaked with ink for the best blend!
A big tip is to always start your blending off the card and move the tool/brush onto the card in a circular motion. It is best to have the card on a slick surface such as a glass mat or silicone blending mat. Start off lightly as this will reduce the chance of marks from the tool – you may wish to tap the tool off to one side after you’ve ink it up to reduce marks to start with.

Ink blending colour ways series 1: Soft teals/aquas
To create a soft teal/aqua combination, I chose three colours from the spa collection to create that soft muted tone. It is best to start blending from the lightest to the darkest colour, so here we’ve started with Hot Tub – a gorgeous soft pale aqua.

Next, blend this into the mid-tone colour Skylight – the most vibrant colour out of the three. Lastly, this is blended into a rich teal colour – Daydream. This would make a great blend for an alternative ocean blend, a moody background for florals or a muted moody blended sky.
Ink blending colour ways series 1: Rich warm night sky
These three colours create a beautiful blend for a warm night sky with pinks/purple from the setting sun. The lightest colour Sangria is a rich dark pink/purple that is almost a wine colour. This blends effortlessly into A Queen For A Day, a rich vibrant purple that still lies in the Spa collection allowing to blend easily in this trio.

Lastly, Juniper Mist is a deep navy blue that adds drama to the top of night sky.
Ink blending colour ways series 1: A tropical sky
For this last trio, I swapped and used 3 colours from the Party collection to showcase their vibrancy. Limoncello is a lovely vibrant happy yellow which when blended with Aquatini mixes to give a lovely lime green in the transtition.

Aquatini – a vibrant aqua also blends seamlessly into Suede shoes creating a darker teal before the vibrant blue from Suede shoes is seen. This can create a beautiful sky for a tropical backdrop.
Ink blending colour ways series 1: the complete trio
These three colourways were fun to create and I can wait to see how many combinations I will come up with. Hopefully, one of these blends has inspired you for your next project, and perhaps you’ll use one soon!
