Girls best friend!

So you know I’m on the WOW! design team, and for that the design team creates samples as inspiration to all fellow WOW! fans based on the month’s theme. This month’s theme is a favourite technique. I’ve already inspired you with my favourite make – emboss resist early this month, so today I’m inspiring you to create with your Sparkles! Girls best friend is a gorgeous Sparkles mix with lovely silver glitter! This has a mix of medium and small grain glitter and it pairs so well with WOW! Bonding powder for reduced/almost non-shed glitter paper.

This technique is great if you want to create custom glitter coloured paper or only need a small amount of glitter card. I created my own sheets to die cut from, and the sparkle is so brilliant it takes centre stage in two clean and simple cards!

Creating the sparkle card!

To start off, use your WOW! Clear Ultra slow drying embossing ink pad to apply ink to some regular card. The easiest way to do this is by direct to paper.  Next, cover this with bonding powder and use your dual speed heat gun to heat set the powder. The bonding powder remains sticky for some time after you heat set it.

If you don’t feel you have good coverage, you can always cover the sticky surface with more bonding powder and heat set again.

Once you powder is melted and still sticky, cover with your choice of Sparkles from WOW! ‘A girl’s best friend’ is stunning and I really recommend this Sparkles if you don’t already have it. Silver glitter can go with so many colour schemes, so it is a great staple to have.

After you have covered the panel with Sparkles, used your heat gun over the panel. This will help remelt the bonding powder to allow the Glitter to sink in more and adhere better. You’ll find you will get less glitter shedding if you heat set it again. Don’t worry though, the glitter will not fly off when you take your heat gun to it as the powder is sticky enough to keep the glitter in place whilst you heat set it.

Creating the cards

With your custom made glitter card, use the Altenew Fine Alphabet dies to die cut a couple of sentiments from the card. Cut the same sentiments from fun foam and mount the glitter letters onto the foam counterparts for dimension.

For the card backgrounds, dry emboss the Altenew Floral Heart Frame and Gradient Stripes background die into Navy Card stock. Fussy cut the heart embossed design out and foam mount onto a white card base.

Adhere the Navy gradient stripes embossed card panel onto a white card base and add some white paint splatter for added interest. Next, use glue to adhere the sentiments to the front of the cards, and add smaller secondary heat embossed sentiments using Opaque Bright White embossing powder on black card. Lastly, add a few sequins to finish the cards off.
