If you’re not sure when or how to add some foil to your card designs, then this technique is a great one to get you going. Or one to have in your bag of tricks for future use. Creating a foiled background for a die-cut overlay gives you a touch of glam without overpowering the card design. The new Marquise slimline cover plate die is the perfect die for this technique as the small openings allow the foiled design to peek through.

Creating the foiled background for a die-cut overlay
You don’t need a foiled machine for this technique. Add wide strips of double-sided adhesive to a slimline card panel. Remove the top third of the double-sided adhesive backing sheet and cover with some Blush Fab Foil. Burnish this with your bone folder to ensure the foil adheres well before removing the foil sheet.

Remove the middle third of double-sided adhesive and repeat this time with Violet Fab Foil. Lastly, remove the lower third of double-sided adhesive and cover with Dark Blue Fab Foil. Adhere this pane to a white cardbase and foam mount a white die-cut using the Marquise slimline cover plate die.

Adding a sentiment
To create the sentiment, die-cut the Round of Merry die from white card stock. With the inner die-cut, cover with this with embossing ink and gold embossing powder before heat setting.

To help make the sentiment stand out a little from the background, die-cut a circle out of vellum that is as big as the outer die from the Round of Merry die. Adhere both die-cuts on top of the vellum and adhere to the front of the panel.

Lastly, embellish with a few mat gold sequins to finish the card off.
