So I’ve held off for a good couple of years. I thought, another crafting machine, do I really need it. And yes when it came out, I wanted it. But I kept saying to myself, do I need it? And two years later, I’ve finally parted with some money and got myself a Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. This post is my first impression on using a glimmer hot foil machine, and although I’m giving you my impression, please note you do not have to feel like you need to buy one. Remember only spend within your means, and if you cant afford it, try finding alternative ways to create the a similar look.

How to hot foil
I recently took advantage of the Spellbinders Black Friday sale and picked up quite a few Glimmer plates. They have some beautiful modern background designs, including this Modern Lines hot foil glimmer plate. This was foiled using the Glimmer Hot Foil machine onto Nautical Hero Hues cardstock.

Now if your cardstock isn’t smooth you may find getting a good foil – so my tip is to run it through your die-cutting machine slowly and at least twice.

For the flowers, I foiled the Foliage Border Glimmer Hot Foil plate in Gold Hot Foil onto Cherry Red and white cardstock. This set also comes with the coordinating dies to cut these out.
Assembling the card
The background was trimmed down and added to a matching card base. The flowers were foam mounted onto the front of the card, clustered around a sentiment from the Yana’s Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil set. To finish, I embellished with gold sequin discs.

What I love with the look of this type of foiling compared to other techniques, is the faux letterpress look it creates as the foil plates press into the cardstock. I absolutely love the look this type of hot foil system can give you – it gives you the look of high-end shop made cards ith the foil detail.

Although I absolutely love my Glimmer hot foil machine, however, I do not think it is neccessity for the craft room. It is a luxury craft machine, but you can achieve foiling in cardmaking without adding this machine to your craft room. So if you find this method of foiling outside of your budget, then please check the blog for other foiling methods. But if you have been thinking about this machine and was unsure, I really recommend it!

Very pretty card. I have resisted the hot foiling machine until now as well. One will be under the Christmas tree next week.
