Cover plate designed baubles!

Cover plate dies are great for creating interesting backgrounds, but I want to show you how you can use them in another way. You can combine these with other dies to create fun designs, and today I created cover plate designed baubles using the coordinating bauble from the Caroling sentiments set. These created large big baubles perfect for taking centre stage on a card front. So let’s get started!

Creating the cover plate designed baubles

To start off, use the bauble die from the Catherine Pooler Caroling Sentiments stamp set to die-cut 3 baubles from white card. Next, use the Dotted Zig-Zag and Peppermint Twist Cover plate dies to die-cut out of the bauble die cuts.

To colour the baubles, smoosh ‘Deck the Halls’ and ‘Cranberry Fizz’ Catherine Pooler ink down onto two of the baubles. For the third bauble, cover this with embossing ink and heat emboss in WOW! Metallic Gold Rich Pale embossing powder. Once complete, trim the top of the baubles off.

Building up the cover plate designed baubles

To complete the baubles, die-cut another the baubles out of white card, and heat emboss two of these in gold embossing powder. Foam mount the inked baubles onto the heat embossed full baubles, and foam mounts the heat embossed bauble onto a plain white bauble.

Add gold string to the back of the baubles and the position these onto a white card panel, tucking the gold thread around the back.  To hide the thread on the card panel, trim the panel down to 1/4″ smaller than your card base and adhere to the front of the card.

Assembling the card

To add the sentiment, die-cut the ‘Merry Christmas’ Catherine Pooler word die from black card and add to the front of the card with foam pads. Next, cover this with clear gloss Nuvo drops to add shine to the sentiment to help it pop out from the card.

Finally, embellish the card with Mistletoe sequins, scattering them around the card.

Mixed media Christmas card
