When I think of alcohol markers, pictures of beautifully colour images come to mind with impeccable blending and shading. I feel I’m still a beginner when it comes to alcohol markers. I’m more than happy to use them, colour with them, but I’m in no way an expert colourist when it comes to alcohol makers. So I was really happy to take the Altenew Magical markers technique class and discover some other ways to get creative with alcohol makers.
It opened my eyes to using them with stencils and I thought the Flowing Hearts stencil from Altenew was perfect for this. Whilst using alcohol markers to colour in stencil designs, I was able to add many different colours in a small space. This gives variation and interest. To step the design up, I also used a technique from a previous class – Beautiful Details, to add a few doodles and lines with a black fine liner pen. I love how this card came out, so simple but pretty at the same time! Although this took me a while, I have finally taken the last AECP class for level 2, bring on level 3!

Start off by positioning the Flowing Hearts stencil over a piece of white card, keeping this in place with washi tape. Next, take one of the teal markers from the Water Garden Alcohol Marker set and start to colour in the negative areas of the stencil.

For interest, vary the colours used and try to avoid the same colour next to one another. Once all the design is complete, remove the stencil. If you have any wobbly lines, just go over the shape with the marker once more to smooth this out.

To add a little more to the design, take a fine pen and add some lines and dots to the shapes. Heat emboss a sentiment onto the front of the card – this sentiment comes from the Paint-a-flower: Clematis stamp set.

Lastly, trim the panel down and foam mount onto the card. Finish by adding a few sequins, scattering these around the card.
