Do you ever get crafter’s block? Eager to sit at your craft desk to while away the time but can’t think of card design to make? Well, why not CASE your own designs to get your creative juices going. For today’s card, I’m CASing a card I made back in September 2017 and tweaking a few elements to step it up a notch. This was created as a challenge entry for one of the WOW! Embossing powder challenge, for which I won that month, so of course, this card is a favourite of mine. I love the elegance of the card with the soft greens and platinum embossing powder on vellum

I love this Flights of Fancy stamp set from WOW! Embossing powder and have used it many times to create a variety of cards. I plan on using the same leaf stamp set as I love the geometric design of the leaf, but you could use any from the stamp set for this card.

Creating the leaves
To being with, prep some vellum using an antistatic bag. Usually, you don’t need to do this with WOW! Embossing powder powders as they put all the work in to remove the static, but Vellum holds static very well so use a bag just to be safe.
Stamp the leaf with Clear Ultra slow drying embossing ink onto the vellum sheet, repeating this five times. Cover with Rose Gold embossing powder and heat set.
Now to add the colour to the leaves by ink blending distress oxides onto the back of the vellum. Start off by blending Tumbled Glass onto the bottom of the leaves, then add Blueprint Sketch and lastly add chipped sapphire to the top of the leaves. To get a smooth blend, go back between the colours to prevent any harsh lines.

Bringing the card together

For the background, use the stencil Broken Chevron from Altenew and with a blending brush apply Tumbled glass to add colour. For a little more depth to the background, add a second colour, Blueprint Sketch, towards the middle of the design. In addition, why not add fine black paint splatter to the background?! The leaves were fussy cut out using scissors, as the shape is quite simple so doesn’t take much time at all.
Initially whilst assembling the card, I thought I would line them all up evenly space across the card, similar to the design in the original card. However, as I’m placing the Opaque bright white embossed sentiment from Altenew leaf canopy stamp set, I changed my mind. Instead, only have 3 leaves on the front in a row, gave more white space either side. But I didn’t want to waste the two other leaves, and instead layered the leaves up to give more dimension to the card.

I would love to hear what you think of the project!

I love the fresh new take on this card design using one of my favourite WOW! Embossing powder stamp set. You can see that I drew on many of the elements from the original card but adding a few extra steps in such as the stencilling and laying of the leaves, I have taken this simple CAS up a notch. I’d love to know what methods you use to break your crafter’s block?
