Hello, good to see you have popped over to the blog. For this weeks project, I created these cards with a stencil and hot foiling. I do love adding foil to my projects, and the shine from foil is perfect for Christmas cards. Although I have only shown you 4 cards here, I can tell you I went to town making plenty of foiled backgrounds when I had all my equipment out and have so far made 14 cards with many more to come. Stenciled foiled Christmas cards add a little of shine that is perfect for Christmas without too much effort. So this project is great for making lots of cards in one go!
Stenciled foiled christmas Cards - Foiling Process overview
To start off, trim down a sheet of card into card panel sizes; I did this in white, black and silver but you could choose any colour! Next, adhere the Snow Flurry stencil from My Favourite things over a card panel and secure in place with low tack tape. Using a spatula, apply transfer gel from Deco Foil over the stencil and repeat on as many backgrounds as you wish.
When finished, make sure you wash your stencil straight away to prevent the glue drying a ruining your stencil for future use. Leave the backgrounds to dry overnight or until the pattern dries clear. When ready, cover your panels with a variety of different colour foils with the colour foil side facing up and run through a Minc machine or laminator to heat set.
Stenciled foiled christmas Cards - Assembling the cards
Card 1
Now the fun begins to design and creating your cards with your backgrounds. For this first card, I used white foil from WOW! on black card to mimic a night sky. I trimmed the panel down and foam mounted onto a white card base. This was finished off with a white stitched circle die cut, a gold Mirri ‘Joy’ die cut from MFT along with a stamped sentiment from Lawn Fawn.
Card 2
For the second card, I used some of the waste from foiling. I adhered a piece of the red foil sheet after it had foiled a background, to a piece of white card by wrapping the sheet around the edges and adhering with adhesive on the back of the panel. By doing this, the adhesive hidden and prevented from showing through any of the ‘snow flurry’. This card was finished in a similar manner to the first one using the die cut sentiment and different stamped sentiment.
Card 3
For the third card, I did foil resist ink blending, similar to emboss resist. Using a blending tool I ink blended a selection of distress oxides to background creating a snowy winter scene. When I was happy with the blend I used a clean paper towel to buff the foil to remove any excess ink. This panel was foam mounted onto a card base and a layered die cut sentiment from MFT was added on top of a white matted circle. Lastly, the card was finished with a foam mounted sentiment from Lawn Fawn.
Card 4
The fourth card was created in a similar manner to the second card, wrapping the foil waste around a piece of white card. In addition, I used the same sentiment as the second card, however, I die cut it from black card and black foam for dimensions. Lastly, I added Wink of Stella to the sentiment for a touch of glimmer.
