Quick and easy Washi Tape card

Quick and easy Washi Tape card

Today’s post shows you have quick and easy it is to make a Washi tape card. Over the bank holiday weekend, I picked up two lovely Gold and white washi tapes. These two colours are such a great combination and are perfect to make an elegant card! This card can easily be mixed up with different colours and styles of washi tape, and all though this card has used two tapes with the same thickness, you can use multiple thickness for added interest.

Materials required:

  • Various washi tapes – The two tapes featured are now stocked in the high-street shop Tiger.
  • Sentiment stamp
  • Ink – The ink used on this card was Versafine onxy black.
  • Acrylic block
  • Corner punch
  • Foam tape
  • Card base – 5″1/2 x 4″ 1/4
  • Cardstock Scissors

How to assemble the Washi Tape card:

First of all, trim the card stock down to “1/4 smaller than the card base.  Following this, take each tape in turn sticking the tape down diagonally across the card, making sure the tape over-hangs. The reason it is best to apply the tape diagonally as opposed to horizontally or vertically, is it is much harder to tell if the tape was applied wonky when it is on the diagonal.

Keep alternating each tape until all the card is covered. Once complete, trim the tape down to the side of the card, removing all the over-hanging tape to get a clean smooth edge.

As a result of this simple technique, this took minutes to create such a stylish and elegant background. Finally, to complete this card, stamp the sentiment on a piece of card stock and trim down to size. Use a corner punch on one end to give added interest and mount the strip onto the background using foam tape.

The whole background was then mounted onto the card base with foam tape leaving a nice even “1/4 border.

This card is very versatile, it can suit any occasion or washi tape in your craft room and is so quick and easy to make. Therefore, it is a handy technique for a last-minute card!
