His and Hers Cards – Lets Get Hopping

Hello and welcome! Good to see you have come by, either along the hop or as your first stop. If you are already hopping along, you will have seen some great projects from Diana Tillery – weren’t they fantastic! Well, the whole of the Lets Get Hopping gang have created some fantastic projects based on this months theme of ‘His and Her’. Create two cards with the same layout/sketch but change up colours, sentiments and embellishments. This was such a fun challenge and I love what I came up with. Whats more I ended up making four cards, so two His and Her cards! So read on to see what I came up with!

Materials required for:

  • Die cutting machine – I use a Sizzix Big Shot
  • Shaped die
  • Cardstock
  • Tonic Nuvo Glimmer paste – I used Moonstone
  • Colour ink to mix with the glimmer paste – I used Seedless Preserves Distress Ink
  • Tonic Nuvo Mousse – I used Old Navy and Pure Platinum
  • Spatulas
  • Sentiment stamps – I used some from Altenew Cake Lover set and Layered Cupcake
  • Picture stamps – the cakes come from Altenew Cake Lover set
  • Sentiment Die – the Cheers is from My Favourite Things
  • Embossing Powders – I Used Rich Pale Gold and Platinum from WOW! Embossing powder
  • Versamark Ink
  • Foam tape
  • Double sided adhesive
  • Card bases

Optional:

  • Sequins
  • Tonic Nuvo Drops

his and her card details - 'His'

For the first two cards, I had an idea to create two cards with a Hexagon stencil. However, I didn’t have a hexagon stencil, so I just created one out of cardstock and a hexagon die. It may feel like you are putting a lot of time into this stencil, but as you can see it led to 4 cards in the end.

For the male card, I kept it quite abstract by blending two colours of Nuvo mousse through the stencil. I love the patchiness of the hexagons on the edge which gives a more rough look, suitable for the masculine theme. I kept the sentiment bold with a multiple layered die cut which was embossed several times for a smooth finish. To keep the embellishment in keeping with the card, I embossed a few of the hexagons die cuts wich were cut when creating the stencil.

I love how this male card came out, as it is sometimes too hard to reign in your embellishing when it comes to the other gender!

For the female card, I used the stencil once more. The mousse had dried on my stencil, but it was made out of cardstock so I didn’t mind. I mixed a little bit of Seedless Preserves with the glimmer paste to create my own colour version. This was smoothed through the stencil, and I blended this out with some paste that had no colour added to it. There is no mistaking the femininity of this card with the colour!

I kept the sentiment simple by stamping and embossing onto small strips of white card. I added a couple of stamped images there were embossed and then watercolour-ed in.  These were mounted onto the panel in the same layout as the male card. Lastly, I embellished the card with Tonic Nuvo Drops. The white colour reacted with the distress ink in the glimmer paste, changing the colour of the drop. Such a great little effect!

bonus his and her cards

Of course, once I had created the two cards above, I was left with the used stencil and a lot of die cut hexagons. Instead of chucking the stencil away and putting the hexagons to one side, I created and additional two cards. To challenge myself more, I wanted to create another his and her cards both with the same layout as one another.

I loved how the glimmer paste had dried onto the stencil, and there was a  blending of the pink from the ink and the blue from the mousse. There were a few places that need a little more glimmer paste, but once this was dry I trimmed into shape below. This was mounted onto the card with glue. I die cut a ‘Happy’ using my Silhouette Cameo machine, but you can use one from your stash. Using the same coloured ink, I blended the colour onto the sentiment so it co-ordinated. This along with another sentiment, was mounted onto the card. To finish, I embellished with sequins. I tried to keep the colour of the sequin similar to the colour of the stencil area it was near two, creating an ombre effect.

For the male card, I used the die cut hexagons and heat embossed these in Gold and Platinum. Once these were set, I foam mounted them onto a black card base, with the same layout as the stencil on the female card.

I kept the sentiment bold, using white card against the strong background.
