1st Birthday Card on the Silhouette Cameo

Hi, so glad you have popped along for this fun post today! This 1st Birthday card is such a bright and happy card, and although the 1 year old might not quite appreciate the card as other recipients do, it will certainly bring a smile to the family members. This card can be easily tailored to a boy or girl by just switching up the colours. Read on for how to make this fun card and download the FREE Silhouette Studio cut file!

Materials required:

  • Several pieces of coloured card stock for the Number 1. These will need to be A4 in size, requiring 2 for the base, 1 for the inner offset and an additional 1 for the circles.
  • Two shades of brown coloured card stock for the monkey.
  • White card stock for the eyes and speech bubble
  • Silhouette sketch pens – this is not essential, you can always hand write the ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment on if you don’t have sketch pens.
  • Coloured pens for the eyes and mouth.
  • Double sided tape
  • Foam tape
  • Silhouette Cameo and Mat

1st Birthday Card Project Details

To begin with cut out the base ‘1’ (2 are required – one with a tab) from the cut file in your choose colour. Both should be cut out of matching card, making sure you only cut one ‘1’ with a tab. A score line is already added into this shape, so just set it to ‘cut’ in the action tab.  Once this has cut, apply double sided tape to the tab and assemble the card base.

Cut out the inner offset ‘1’ in a corresponding colour, along with the circles. Adhere the circles to the inner offset ‘1’ with double sided tape, following the pattern. When complete, adhere this to the card base.

Cut the corresponding monkey parts out in the matching colours and assemble with double sided tape. Draw on the blacks of the monkeys eyes and its mouth with a coloured pen. When you are happy with this, apply foam tape on the back of the monkey, only on the side touching the card-base. Positioned on the ‘1’ as though he is sitting on the base.

If you have Silhouette Sketch pens, set the sentiment to sketch and draw this before you cut the bubble out in white cardstock. Remember not to unload the cutting mat from the machine until you have drawn and cut the speech bubble. If you don’t have sketch pens, you can draw the sentiment on.

Mount the speech bubble onto the card with foam tape and your card is finished.

This card can brighten up any child’s birthday and will bring a smile to the family too. Why not download the cut file and make one today?!
